The primary reason for using a transfer station is to reduce the cost of transporting waste to disposal facilities. Consolidating smaller loads from collection vehicles into larger vehicles reduces hauling costs by enabling collection crews to spend less time traveling to and from distant disposal sites and gain more time collecting waste. This also reduces fuel consumption and collection vehicle maintenance costs, plus produces less overall traffic, gas emissions, and road wear. In addition, a transfer station also provides an opportunity to screen waste prior to disposal and flexibility in selecting waste disposal options. Waste transfer station is a settlement including facilities and equipment which lead to waste volume reduction and waste transfer into either semitrailers or special containers which are handled by hook-lift vehicles. KAOUSSIS undertakes the study, the design and the construction of the whole station, having to demonstrate in this field high expertise, great experience and unique patents.
